Dickwella is a historical place described in ancient messenger poems .The historically important of the Wewurukannala Viharaya and the 50 meters high statue of the load buddah are situated in the division.

Dickwella is small coastal market town in Southern province of Sri Lanka. It is approximately 207 kilometers south of Colombo. Dickwella is noted for its long sandy beach which is protected by headlands, reefs and sand-bars, making it safer for swimming.
Generally, buses from Colombo and Airport starts it will take you to Dickwella If you journey from Colombo, it will take around 4 hours and 40 min o reach Dickwella. On the other hand, if you take the Airport to Dickwella bus route, it will take around 5 hours as well.
Take bus 187 From Airport to Colombo “Fort Railway Station” for around 100 Rupees. You can purchase a 2nd or 3rd class ticket to Negombo when you arrive at the railway station the cost will be 2 to 3 $ and it will take 7 hours to reach matara railway station. Matara to Dickwella can take bus or private taxi Don’t expect to get a seat on this train as they are generally always packed.
Dickwella weather is tropical in nature and it is influenced by monsoon winds. All most all the year, this place has a temperature around 30°C. Also, it is always hot and humid. At the time of two rainy seasons (from March to December), the rainfall would be quite heavy. Bentota is in the south coast region of Sri Lanka.
